Course Preview: Strategies for ELL Instruction

In this module, you will learn information that will impact your teaching of English Language Learners, or ELLs. ELLs are the fastest growing segment in our schools today, yet their graduation rates are significantly behind that of their peers. It's imperative that we recognize this group of students and respond to their needs. This module outlines some basic information about ELLs and gives you an overall picture of the research based strategies that are proven to help them succeed.

By the end of this learning module, the learner will be able to:

  • Develop a better understanding of the varying needs of English Language Learners.
  • Develop and explain a plan of interventions and supports to better support English Language Learners in your classroom.
  • Evaluate your own effectiveness in meeting the complex needs of English Language Learners.

Each of our learning modules follows our four-part framework:

LearnIt. Our ELL Best Practices course includes 30 videos broken out into 6 different sections giving educators a depth of information on the topic.

DoIt. Each course includes an opportunity to practice the theory in a classroom-focused scenario. In this course teachers are asked to choose three instructional or classroom management strategies presented in the LearnIt section and explain how they hope to implement them.

ShareIt. Using the built-in community, collaboration is encouraged. Each course allows educators to share their DoIt experience as well as any additional learning.

ProveIt. At the end of each learning module an assessment is provided for educators to demonstrate what they have learned.
